TOPIC: LEVELS OF THE SPIRIT

INTRODUCTION:
The Bible says that Jesus had always been going to the Synagogue but made little or no impression on
the people Luke 4:16. He was known as the son of Joseph, Matt 13:55. But on this particular day,
however, He opened the book of Isaiah and read Luke 4:18-21. This day was His beginning, the beginning
of why He came to the world. He had no beginning until the anointing came upon Him.
The coming of the anointing of God on a Christian is the beginning of the reason why he has been saved
Acts. 2:1-4. This special Bible study is about the Holy Spirit, our placement in God’s kingdom and a
revelation that will change everything about our lives. May the Holy Spirit Himself do what He did in the
life of our Savior in our lives going forward in Jesus name.
1. ANOINTING IS ‘THE’ GIFT.
*The anointing is not just a gift. It is the gift promised by the Father Luke 24:49, Acts 1:4, Acts 2:39.
*This gift is different from the other gifts of the Spirit. It does not come by merit. It cannot be purchased
It is the gift for exploits and excellence in the kingdom Matt 10:19-20, Acts 2:3-4,40-4.
2. FUNCTIONS OF THE ANOINTING UPON A CHRISTIAN.
*The ministry of the anointing is that of teaching you all truth and also gives knowledge and understanding.
1 Cor 9:9-13, John 14:26, 1 John 2:27.
*He guides you into what steps to take from time to time and prevents you from perishing Hosea 4:6.
*He unveils your understanding and makes reading and studying the Word fruitful Eph 1:17-19.
*The anointing surrounds you with an aroma of honor, dignity and excellence Luke 4:14,36-37
3. LEVELS OF THE SPIRIT.
The Holy Ghost is One but operates at three different levels in a believer.
A) WATER LEVEL.
*He is at work in a believer at the new birth John 16:8, Zech 12:10, Acts 2:37.
He enables individual to confess Jesus as the Lord 1 Cor 12:3.
*The Spirit of God is there in a believer at salvation but at water level Matt 3:16, John 4:14, John 3:16
The well water is determined largely by the prevailing climatic condition so too a newly born again
Christian is largely controlled by the circumstances of life Eph 4:14, 1 Pet 2:2, Heb 5:12-14.
B) RIVER LEVEL
*The baptism of the Holy Ghost is another level - The next level in a Christian’s quest to be filled with
God.

*At baptism, you are immersed in the Spirit. At this level, the water level rises, the Spirit in you now
operates at the River Level.
*A Christian who has received the baptism in the Holy Ghost, has stronger resistance against harsh
conditions in life than one who is only saved. He has stronger and durable spiritual shock absorbers.
(A well of water might dry up in the dry season, but it will take harsher conditions like severe famine and
drought to dry up a river).
The well is limited in its use, unlike the river. It can be used for irrigation, Boating, Hydro power etc.
A Christian baptized in the Holy Spirit will exercise greater spiritual power than one who is only saved
Acts 19:2-6, John 7:38-39, Ezekiel 47:9
C) RAIN LEVEL.
*There is yet another spiritual experience higher than the first two - the anointing with power that
the Bible refers to as the rain level. Joel 2:23-28
*Without the rain, a well dries up. A river will look pitiable in the dry season.
The life of both the well and the river is determined by the rain.
Jesus went through these three phases.
(a) He was born of the Holy Ghost (New Birth) Luke 1:34-35.
(b) At baptism, the Holy Ghost descended upon Him in the form of a dove Luke 3:21-23.
(c) Luke 4:1 He went to the wilderness and secured power for His ministry and returned in the power of
the Spirit. (the anointing) John 3:34, Luke 4:14.
CONCLUSION:
If we want to see results in our walk with Christ, we need the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Seek and thirst
after Him and He will surely fill us with Himself in Jesus name
